Based on 783 reviewsTori Sei is widely recognized for delivering authentic Japanese yakitori in a casual yet engaging setting, attracting both local and Japanese patrons. Reviews consistently highlight the restaurant’s specialty in charcoal-grilled skewers, praised for their well-marinated, juicy texture that preserves the authentic flavor of the chicken and other meats. The menu variety, featuring chicken, beef, and pork options, appeals to a broad range of tastes, with particular appreciation for balanced seasoning that allows the natural ingredients to shine. Customers often commend the value offered, especially during weekday lunch sets that combine multiple skewers with traditional sides. The atmosphere is described as comfortable, though sometimes slightly noisy, particularly near the grill area which adds warmth to the dining experience. Service is frequently noted as friendly and efficient, contributing to an overall enjoyable visit. While minor preferences for cooking times appear, the consistent quality and genuine Japanese culinary approach are clear strengths of this establishment.
The yakitori at Tori Sei was well marinated and still juicy. But, I'm pretty sure mine need to cooked for few more minutes so it's well cooked and not pinkish. Sadly, I didn't order the sweet one so I can't compare. But, the yakitori was really good. I suggest you to order the original one or something with no or little additional ingredients to taste the authencity of the chicken itself. I also ordered oyakodon and okonomiyaki. The oyakodon was good, eventhough for my preference it'd be tastier if we add a pinch of sweet to balance the savory. The texture of okonomiyaki was really good, but not for the dough. It was too thick without any protein in it. The protein is only for topping, which means it's too little, eventhough the katsuoboshi is generous. The highlight during my visit turns out to be the free side dish, which I think it's stir fry cabbage. Simple, crunchy, savory, and refreshing somehow. I would be glad to come back just for the cabbage.
Tori Sei is my best Japanese lunch place in Jakarta. The specialty is yakitori which is very soft and charcoal grilled flavor . Here is a good place for dinner, but weekday lunch cost performance is best of best. Yakitori set is only 90k which include 5 choices of yakitori and side dish (salad, chawanmushi, miso). My typical choice is momo, negima, pork bacon with enoki, gyukushi. All are never disappointed Tori Sei gozen set is also good simple choice. It consists of 3 yakitori(momo, negima, tsukune) and small portion of sashimi, chicken teriyaki. I always order draft beer Bintang. They might manage clean the draft can, so the foam is very creamy. ———————————————- Came again. Still good and lovely place.
This was my first time at a restaurant specializing in yakitori, and it was a great experience! The food is delicious, and they have a good variety of skewers including chicken, beef, and pork. It's a comfortable place for lunch, and the staff is very friendly. You know it's authentic when you see a lot of Japanese customers here. I ordered a yakitori set with 5 skewers. Just a heads up, the price is quite high—expect to spend at least IDR 100,000 per person, so get your wallet ready! Overall, it's a worthwhile place to visit if you're looking for an authentic and tasty yakitori meal, but choose your skewers wisely!
You know, when you're at Blok M, the Japanese food there has always been a big hit. I think this place is legit, 'cause the owner's Japanese. The food is so good! I'm definitely coming back. Their yakitori is the best! Super yum! I can't stop eat their yakitori i ordered soup, agedashi tofu, yakitori and more yakitori
Enjoyed all the menus that we ordered. So we ordered a few of the yakitori, our favourite was the savory chicken thigh and the chicken breast with yuzu. Also ordered the omakase sashimi platter, all was fresh and tasty. Service was fast and friendly. Place is nice but a little bit noisy. Also if you sit near the grill, expect some warmth. All in all, would recommend!
Authentic Japanese restaurant in Blok M area, super delicious, cannot stop eating especially the Yakitori. Super recommended place to have discussion with friends and colleagues.
One of the best Japanese resto around Blok M area. You know that the place is good when you see more Japanese guests dining in. Their yakitori are all super good. The minced chicken, chicken skin and my favorite is the pork with cheese. Super tasty and unique! They also serve a lot of sake variety and the service here is top notch! The only minus factor for me is that the whole area is smoking (although it is not that smokey inside).
Visited on Sunday afternoon around 11:30. Tables were all fully reserved (despite having no customers at that time), so got seated at the counter by the yakitori grill area (a bit too warm). • Torisei yaki - chicken thigh yakitori wrapped in chicken skin. Very good! Crispy chicken skin, juicy chicken meat inside. • Buta bara yaki - pork belly yakitori. This was just okay, slightly dry. • Chicken nanban - deep fried chicken with tartar sauce. This was really good, big portion, sauce was generous and creamy with some egg chunks. • Goma tofu - sesame tofu. Interesting flavor, never had this before in Jakarta. Silky yet chewy “tofu”made of sesame, not soybean. • Buta shogayaki set - boiled sliced pork belly, comes with chawanmushi, pickles, miso soup, salad, and rice. Pork was just okay, pale and slightly tough. Chawanmushi was good though. • Chirashi set - assorted sashimi on rice bowl. Also came with chawanmushi, pickles, salad, and miso soup. Sashimi were decent. • Vanilla ice cream or coffee jelly (complimentary) - can’t resist free food! Overall decent Japanese izakaya with wide menu selection, although I’d recommend only the yakitori (esp. chicken) and small bites.
